Every Akubra hat is made to last, and while it will adjust slightly to your head over time, choosing the right size ensures lasting comfort and a perfect fit. Measuring your head for the right hat size is simple—just follow these three steps:

HOW TO MEASURE

What You’ll Need
Grab a flexible measuring tape. If you don’t have one, a piece of string and a ruler will do the trick.

Step 1: Measure Where the Hat Will Sit
Wrap the measuring tape (or string) around your head, positioning it just above your ears and about a finger’s width above your eyebrows. This is where your Akubra will naturally sit.

Make sure the tape is level all the way around and sits firmly—but not too tight. You want a comfortable fit, not a squeeze.

Step 2: Record Your Size
Take note of the measurement in centimetres. If you're using a string, simply mark where the ends meet, then lay it flat against a ruler.

Step 3: Choose the Right Size
If your measurement falls between sizes, we recommend sizing up for comfort. Akubra hats are designed to mold to your head over time—so a slightly looser fit is ideal, especially as natural factors like heat and sweat can cause the hat to shrink a little.

FINAL TIPS FOR A PERFECT FIT

A snug start is normal
The leather inner band may shrink slightly with time, so a firm initial fit is ideal. It won’t loosen with wear.

It will shape to you
With regular wear, your Akubra will naturally mould to the contours of your head, creating a truly personalised fit.

Fine-tune the fit
If it feels a little loose at first, insert hat fillers behind the inner band. These can be removed later as the hat conforms to your shape. Your hat should feel secure enough to stay on in the wind, but never tight or uncomfortable.

STRAW HAT SIZING

Our new Straw Collection features the classic leather inner sweatband, allow for natural shrinkage over time. To help achieve the perfect fit from the start, a hat filler will be included with every order.

Hat Stretchers should not be used with our new Straw Collection, as the natural fibres of the fine palm leaf may split under pressure.
