Meet Bambi Northwood-blyth

The Urban Cowgirl Beneath The Brim

Growing Up Australian: Nature Is in My DNA

Bambi grew up in Melbourne, spending weekends winding down the Great Ocean Road to Lorne — where the beach, the bush, and the open air shaped who she is. Even now, living in New York, she’s drawn to the water and the sky. “Living in Australia makes you connected to outdoors. The quietness of outdoors, sometimes all you can hear is nature – it’s something bigger than you.” To her, the Akubra isn’t just an accessory — it’s a companion. A link to stillness. A feeling of home.

From Lorne to the Lone Star: MY First Rodeo

“I went to my first ever rodeo last year in Fort Worth, Texas. It was amazing and a whole vibe – the hat, the cowboy boots. You’re weird if you don’t have them on.”
Raised by the coast, Bambi wasn’t a rodeo regular — but the Western spirit struck a chord. The energy, the tradition, the effortless style. “I signed up to go again,” she says, smiling.

A Hat That Tells a Story

“I have my dad’s – it was the first Akubra I ever had. It sat on the hatstand in the hallway… It’s been worn, had a life. You put it on and become a character.”
For Bambi, it started with her father’s hat — soft, lived-in, a little too big. It became a symbol of play, memory, and style with soul. My First Rodeo carries that same sense of character — a piece made to be lived in, passed on, and worn with pride.

“An Akubra you have for life – like your skin, you should protect your assets.” Unlike caps that come and go, an Akubra is built to last — protecting your face, your story, and your legacy. And, as Bambi points out: no hat hair.

“The magic of a good hat is, when it fits well, you don’t need anything else.” Western fashion might be having a moment, but Bambi’s always been a denim-and-hat girl. “The blues and browns are forever going to be in,” she says — and My First Rodeo fits right in, whether you’re stepping into a rodeo or just chasing a little everyday boldness.

Akubra for a New Generation

“Akubra is an iconic Australian brand. It’s something everyone should experience.
Rooted in craftsmanship and built for a life outdoors, My First Rodeo brings Akubra to a new generation — one that values storytelling, quality, and timeless style. Whether it’s your first rodeo or your fifth, this hat’s got the spirit to match.
