How to Install a Chinstrap on Your Akubra

Whether you're gearing up for a windy day or a weekend in the saddle, a chinstrap can be a practical addition to your Akubra. The good news? You don’t need to punch holes or damage your hat to attach one.

This simple, no-fuss method allows you to secure a chinstrap using the internal hat band—keeping your hat intact while ensuring a reliable fit.

Step 1: Locate the Internal Hat Band

Start by gently lifting the internal sweatband. You’re looking for a small gap or space between the hat body and the band—this is where the chinstrap will sit.

Step 2: Prepare Your Chinstrap

Take your chinstrap and locate the attachment ends—these are usually small loops or hooks designed to slide into place.

Step 3: Slide the Strap Behind the Band

Carefully feed one end of the chinstrap behind the internal band. It should tuck in securely without needing any glue or hardware. Repeat on the other side. The natural tension of the band will hold the strap in place while remaining completely hidden from view.

Step 4: Fit and Adjust

Pop your Akubra on and adjust the chinstrap under your chin for a snug, comfortable fit. It should be tight enough to stay in place, but not so tight that it pulls or pinches.

Step 5: Test It Out

Give your hat a gentle shake to make sure the chinstrap is secure. If needed, adjust the positioning slightly to get the best hold.

With this easy method, you get the security of a chinstrap—without making a single alteration to your Akubra. It's a small upgrade that makes a big difference when you're out and about.
