Sara Berki Talks Music, Life, and Everything In Between

What inspired you to start singing country music?

Country music naturally came into my life through my love for the outdoors, horse riding, and camping. It’s the perfect outlet for me to write songs that are inspired by real-life experiences and the stories I want to share.

What’s been one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?

There have been so many memorable moments already, but performing at the Gabba for the Brisbane Lions was a highlight. We performed our rendition of "Take Me Home, Country Roads" and the energy in the stadium was amazing—then the video blew up online and went viral!

Song writing is such a personal process—can you share the story or inspiration behind one of your favourite songs?

Song writing is deeply personal for me—it’s my form of therapy, helping me work through what I’m feeling. I’ve written a lot of songs that have helped me work through difficult times. One of my favourites is “Happy House,” which tells the story of a little girl sitting in her room, playing with her dolls while family issues unfold nearby. I believe it’s a song people will connect with, whether or not they’ve experienced something similar.

How would you describe yourfashion style on and off stage?

Offstage, I’m all about comfort and practicality—camping, horseback riding, and wearing cosy western attire. On stage, I like to mix things up. I draw inspiration from Stevie Nicks, often incorporating tassels, suede, dark, moody tones, turquoise jewellery, and an Akubra hat to complete the look.

What’s next for you? Do you have any exciting projects or goals on the horizon?

Over the past six months, I’ve been fully immersed in creating new music, and I’m beyond excited to share it with the world this year. In June, I’m heading to America for my first trip, which is a dream come true. I’ll be writing and recording new music while I’m there.

Right now, I’m touring the Australian capital cities on my first headline tour, and I’m hoping to extend the tour to regional areas this year. I’ve got big plans for the year ahead, and it feels like things won’t be slowing down anytime soon!
